Day 2 @ Sabah

THE FEDERAL TERRITORY OF LABUAN

The brightness of the morning sunlight woke me up. It really freaks me out when my hand phone shows 5.30am and the sky was like 7am in peninsular! Well, not just me, everybody besides Elsa who already got used to the time jumped up from bed. Weird lor, wonder why our ex prime minister adjust the time. After washing up and packing, our driver of the day Encik Roslin gave us a ride to the jetty.

Jesselton Point

Oh yea forgotten to intro our new found friend, Alex (on the right in the photo above!). He's CheongHong's MMU friend who stays in Sabah but doesn't really know how to cari makan in Sabah..haha~ We took our almost 3 hours journey ferry ride to Labuan. If you are planning to go Labuan on a ferry, a tip for you, bring along your minyak angin or sour plum. The smell of diesel really can kill you!

Our first move once we reached Labuan was to get a car. As you can see the price. Car renting were quite pricy, so we gotten this! haha...

neh...not that. We rented 1 Proton Iswara for RM70 and 1 Proton Wira for RM75 instead.

And off we go to our first destination. Road trips were fun. We are not sure where are we going, we don't have a clue about Labuan, with only ONE map, we travel the whole Island! Our first stop of the day was Labuan State Mosque.

An'Nur Jamek Mosque is famous for it's futuristic architecture

After a session of photograph taking. We headed off to Victoria Hotel.

Have you ever seen this kinda elevator before? Vintage huh! Mom told me they used to have this kind of elevator in Malacca General Hospital those days. OMG...how scary!

Lunch were settled at a nearby coffee shop. I must say, Sabah food is damn expensive! Even KL pun kalah lar. Our next station, Labuan International Sea Sports Complex. We didn't have the chance to get a taste of the sea sports lar of course, rushing for time ma. But we went to the Museum Of Marine Biology instead. Poor ShiekThing were sick that day, thus she was resting in the shade most of the time.

Okay, next stop going up north was the Labuan War Cemetery. Sounds scary? Not at all if you were there. The scenery was splendid and the environment, tranquil and calm~

We visited The 'Chimney' next.

Here's a little history about the site >> Situated on a rise at Tanjung Kubong the 106 feet high red brick stack is believed to be linked to the coal mining days of Labuan. It was made from more than 23,000 pieces of red bricks imported from England and was long thought to be nothing more than a ventilation shaft. However, recent findings revealed that there were no traces of smokes or burning to suggest its use as a chimney as popularly believed. Careful digging has revealed at least 12 layers of bricks beneath the surface. The structure sits firmly on a large tract of limestone rock containing rich kaolin or porcelain clay, which provided the strong foundation. The ‘Chimney’ is still very much a mystery until today. Some said it was an unfinished mansion. While others said it was a light house beckoning passing ships. In its heyday, a thriving settlement was built at the sea front area below the Chimney. It was then used as a bell tower to announce the arrival of ships to the residents below. It has become an intriguing riddle that fascinates locals and visitors alike.

Less than 1km away from The Chimney was the Birds Park.

Next Layang-layangan beach! We started cam-whoring there while others just sits in the shades and enjoy the calmness of the seaside.

We were suppose to head back to the hotel after the beach but Elsa suggested we go to the Surrender Point nearby for a quick visit. This is where the 32nd Japanese Southern Army surrendered to the 9th Division Australian Imperial Forces on 9th September 1945 which led to the end of World War II in Borneo.

After dinner, yea again at a Chinese coffee shop, we went for shopping for duty free. Labuan is really a dead town after say 8pm. Most of the shops are closed and the streets, were not as busy as Malacca. It's hard to even get a Chinese coffee shop at that time! Bb said it's just like Malacca, 20 years ago!

Liquor were not enough for us. Me, bb, CheongHong and Elsa went down to the nearby duty free shop to get beer. For those alcoholic maniac, Labuan is really a heaven to you! A bottle of Beer only cost me RM2.30! Chivas is only RM60++! At night were the 'keng sam si' session with...our special drinks or course.

Day 3 to be continue...
